A boy, a girl and their freshman year of high school. This was the backdrop to the beginning of a love story for Jessica and Jean Carlo.
They met their freshman year of high school and slowly but steadily began to form a friendship based on humor, comfort and honesty. After failed attempts at moving out of the "friend zone" and unanswered "friend requests", senior year brought the pair to the point of dating one another's best friends. Constantly returning to the comfort of one another during rocky patches in their respective relationships, Jessica and Jean Carlo realized together is where they belonged the whole time.
While trying to keep their relationship private from family and friends, Jessica and Jean Carlo were clearly on a path to building a future together. Jessica recalls an important moment the two shared in their relationship wherein Jean Carlo said, "I am terrified to ever say the L word, but I don't feel scared to say it to you" and with that Jessica replied, "I will never regret saying I love you to you."
Having established a level of comfort with one another and being a comfort to one another early in their friendship, comfort was the overall feeling Jessica remembers when recounting her fondest memory with Jean Carlo. "He came to my house and we didn't have an inch of awkwardness. It was all so comfortable. We walked around my neighborhood for about two hours and just laughed and played the entire time. He picked a beautiful flower for me and took me to the hill of my neighborhood and we laid and watched the stars and he looked at me and said, "I don't want you to be with anyone else other than me, will you be my girlfriend?" He was such a gentleman and super romantic."
As their relationship continues to grow, these two want to grow together through a love for travel and their travel bucket list, laughter, acro yoga and a focus on the practice of patience. According to Jessica, " we work so well because we promise to let the past go, never hold a grudge, never go to bed or wake up angry, and to always communicate right then and there because if we don't then it could seem that one of us doesn't care enough to fix the problem."
The proposal was a well-executed event with participation from Jean Carlo's family during the family's "Easter egg hunt" at Oak Mountain State Park. He arranged a hunt for the children, knowing Jessica would fully want to participate. "He got everyone to tell me that they were hiding money in the eggs and the eggs with the most glitter had more money in them." "He got his dad to video and had a romantic song playing and had the ring in the most beautiful ring holder in the shape of an egg! After three years of dating and a slight slip from her father the day before, Jessica was thrilled beyond compare.
With their wedding set for July 7, 2018, Jessica reports she is looking forward to "saying my vows and everything I love about him while celebrating my commitment to the most perfect guy in the world in front of all the people I love the most.
