Megan McCord met Robert "Bobby" Key on a blind date arranged by her best friend Grace and her coworkers. Megan admits that "Bobby claims he knew it was love after seeing the picture she (Grace) showed him, but I would say in reality that it was an initial attraction that developed over time." Regardless of how it started, one thing is true, it was meant to be!
From their initial meeting in March of 2014, Megan and Bobby have combined their lives seamlessly and found a groove that binds them based on laughter, adventure, travel and a love for the great outdoors. Megan shares that the two spend a typical Saturday "going to a new place to hike, swim, see waterfalls, eat local food, and enjoy nature." Their love continues to grow stronger by supporting each other through their common goal of training for a half marathon. According to Megan, "it has been fun to encourage each other throughout our training, and have some friendly competition during various races along the way."
Megan praises Bobby for his ability to make her laugh through it all, including their recent move away from family and friends. He "can make me laugh like crazy. Some of my favorite memories from our relationship involves driving around in the car exploring our new city while singing and laughing." Another special characteristic she adores about Bobby is what " an incredibly hard worker" he is and how he "does a great job taking care of us as a family." "I have complete faith in him as a provider and am proud of his accomplishments every day."
Acknowledging the fact that she is "impatient" and not a fan of surprises, Megan recalls lovely the details of the proposal. Although it was not a complete surprise to her, she conveys, "it was perfect and memorable all the same."
The backdrop was Avondale Park; the ruse was a party, supposedly, to celebrate Bobby's sister. With a bit of suspicion, a dab of investigation and a great deal of excitement, Megan could hardly contain herself when the day came for the party. She was briefly thrown off when Bobby did not follow normal protocol when picking her up and "honked the horn to announce his arrival. This totally crushed my mood, because I was certain that I wouldn't get honked at the night he was planning to propose!"
After arriving at the park and discovering there wasn't a party, Bobby "suggested that we walk around anyway. We went over to the amphitheater, where he eventually popped the question. It was a perfect and sweet proposal, captured beautifully by my little brother's best friend." Bobby had some additional curve balls for the night that included dinner for two at Gianmarco's and a surprise gathering of family and friends at his house. "I honestly knew nothing about it, so my noisy self was truly wonderfully surprised." "Everything that went into that evening shows the great care and thought that Bobby puts into things, and is a reminder to me of how lucky I am to have him." Well done Bobby!
After their proposal in a city they love, Megan and Bobby wed in the Magic City on July 16, 2016 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. With nearly 350 guests in attendance, Megan reports how important it was to have their special day at this place. "I knew I wanted it and it's people to be a huge part of this event in my life."
After the wedding, all of their nearest and dearest gathered at The Florentine to celebrate and Megan states, "we could not have been happier with such an amazing venue!" Dancing the night away to the Billy Gant Band in her Olia Zavozina gown from Bustle in Homewood, Alabama, Megan's vision of her wedding day being filled with classic and traditional touches was finally realized. "As cliche as it may sound, nothing was more special than the love that surrounded us that entire day. It was overwhelming to be surrounded by every person we have loved and that has loved us while you pledged your lives to each other. Leaving that reception that night was bittersweet. We were so excited to start our lives together, but wanted to relish in the moment of having our whole hearts surrounding us." Could not have said it better!
After going on a honeymoon trip of a lifetime to Hotel Punta Islita in Guanacaste and Nayara Hotels near Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica, Megan and Bobby has settled down in Portland, Oregon. Planting roots and running wild!
