Hannah says she "always joke that I fell in love with Chris when he invited me over for pizza and champagne, or when he wiped down the counters after he made me dinner for the first time. But in reality, we just clicked from the very beginning. I didn't have to pretend about anything- I got to be myself completely." Love from the beginning!
The beginning of Hannah Gentry and Christopher McCauley happened in two stages. Initial meeting and a nearly three years later follow up. Hannah and Chris met in 2012 when she interviewed as an intern at a non-profit company where Chris was employed. Hannah worked at the company for two years then moved away to France for a time. After returning to Birmingham, Hannah and Chris reconnected once he "reached out to see how life was going" for her. On March 25, 2015, the two gathered at Urban Standard and "we've been inseparable ever since!"
Hannah and Chris's time together is spent enjoying concerts, exploring new places, hosting friends, cooking together, watching Barons baseball, and crafting Tiki-style cocktails all while managing to love on the "most spoiled cat in the world" named Cricket.
The Proposal. Sweet and intimate! Hannah lovely recalls, "Chris proposed on Christmas Day, 2016. He surprised me by putting my ring on a new ornament on our Christmas tree! We had some time to ourselves, and then both of our families came over for Christmas lunch to celebrate."
For Hannah and Chris, having a large wedding was not appealing to them. "So when we heard about Tiny Weddings Birmingham it was a no-brainer. We wanted to celebrate our love for each other, as well as our families and friends who have supported us. I think that's exactly what we accomplished." One of Hannah's most cherished detail of the wedding day was using a cuff from her "Pawpaw's shirt to wrap my bouquet."
The couple wed on May 28, 2017 at The Nest hosted by Tiny Weddings Birmingham. Gathered to support them, love them and celebrate with them were 25 of their closest family members. Following their ceremony, the wedding party and family members dined at Trattoria Centrale, "which is our favorite restaurant in Birmingham!"
Hannah recalls their wedding day, "we didn't do a "first look", so the moment I walked down the aisle was really special for both of us. We also wrote our own vows, so that was pretty emotional. When we were planning, we agreed to stick to a 60-40 rule (60% lighthearted, 40% serious). As soon as Chris said his vows, it was very clear that he didn't stick to the ratio. We were both a mess for the rest of the ceremony!
The couple held their reception on June 17, 2017 at the Alabama Center for Architecture surrounded by 80 of their nearest and dearest all ready to party. Hannah and Chris danced their first dance to Townes Van Zandt's "If I Needed You" and danced the night away to the tunes of Travis Swinfold.
Hannah and Chris honeymooned in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. The desire to "go somewhere we've never been and where the weather would be nice in the summer" was strong. It also didn't hurt that Hannah is a French teacher and was thrilled to "include some French-speaking cities."
Chris, Hannah and Cricket are happily living in Crestwood South.
